We feel at home, the house is unpacked, and we are on Kenya time (Kenya is 8 hours ahead of Memphis, TN). We are working to get everything back on schedule. The girls have reconnected with friends, as have Jim and I. We have had company most days, and we have loved that. We are so thankful to be here, but most importantly, we are here and are refreshed. God really did help us to be ready for this next term.So – now that we are a bit settled, it is time to get back into ministry. That starts tomorrow! We are excited to get to go back to see the street kids! We are really praying for discernment on how to proceed with this ministry. Just before we went stateside, I was able to attend a meeting with others with our mission that serve in similar ministries all over sub-Saharan Africa. We shared what had worked and what had not. This allowed me hear ideas that I may have never considered. With this fresh start, now may be the time to implement some of these ideas.
Specific prayers:
1) Safety as we go downtown.
2) Discernment for how to proceed
3) God to prepare hearts to hear about God’s love for them
4) For encouragement for Eunice, Fred and Boniface
5) For God to use the team that is here right now that will be working with us this weekend.
6) For God to work in the hearts of the team.
And a couple of personal requests:
7) Linda is doing school online. This week has been difficult to find time to get studies done. Pray for the “rhythm” to be found to be able to work it in and not interfere with family and ministry.
8) Lydia is working through some extra math to help her to be ready for 6th grade. Pray for her mind to quickly absorb the information.
9) Pray for us to stay healthy. LOTS of dust and such and changes in temps, food and water.
There are now 3 groups of street kids that are being worked with. The original boys group, the group of girls, and a new group has formed since I have been gone. We call them the Riverside boys. Eunice started working with them while I was gone. I will meet them for the first time tomorrow. I am looking forward to that. This link below will take you to a set of stories that were written about this group – and it may help you know better how to pray. There are 2 stories, Oscar’s Story and Eunice & the Nairobi Street Boys. There are also some pictures. Eunice is a dear friend – actually on her way here as I write to spend the night. Thank you for standing with us as we again are so blessed to be ambassadors for Christ in Kenya. It is a great privilege. We will update you next week – or before!
